June 2014 Update #2

Well that was quick -- recently I was having issues with my computer so I thought I was going to be prevented from editing videos but I got everything fixed rather quickly! The issue was with my hard drive, luckily I didn't lose anything but it was a bit of a headache getting things working again. I was unable to startup my computer so I went to the Apple store to discover what the problem was. Luckily I was able to save my media from my drive by connecting my iMac to another iMac which makes my drive show up on the desktop like an external drive would. At this point I was able to plug in an external drive (which I had to go out and buy) and copy my files over. I was able to transfer my media overnight, took my computer back to the Apple store the next day and I had my computer back the following day. Again -- I ran into another problem! I was unable to install Final Cut Pro from my discs. I had to take back the iMac to the Apple store and discovered there was a problem with my optical drive. Unfortunately my Apple care had ran out and the best option for me was to buy an external disc drive. At this point I was feeling hopeful that I would be editing soon but I ran into one last problem. Apparently the Apple USB SuperDrive's are meant for MacBook Pro's. Thankfully the internet has the answer to many questions and I was able to make it work for my iMac.

Now I can begin editing again! I put together a quick video after fathers day for my Instagram account.

Yesterday was officially the 'first day of summer' (June 21). Here's another short video I put together for my Instagram account enjoying the summer sun -- I actually dislike being in the sun but once you're done working out it's all worth it.

I enjoy putting these videos together to showcase on Instagram. I think it's good practice for video editing and also I enjoy it because sometimes I wish I could make full on music videos to some of my favorite songs.

June 2014 Update

Hello world. I feel like I've been locked up in my room for days on end editing my life away! I've been lucky enough to continuously jump from one project to the next. Over the past 10 months or so I've edited over 60 videos including MMA/boxing interviews, mini-documentaries on cycling, music artists, and experimenting with personal projects as well. Below is a quick video I edited to share on Instagram for "Throwback Thursday" yesterday. The video is a 15 second highlight video of one of my best friends bachelor party in South Lake Tahoe earlier this year.

When I first began video editing it started with creating videos of my friends around 15 years ago. Early on as a filmmaker I was influenced by Tom Green, Candid Camera, CKY and Jackass. As the years went on as I learned new techniques I tried to recreate the visual effects I saw on TV. I feel like I've come full circle at this time because my computer currently crashed so my editing will slow down just a tad at this time. It just so happens the last video I created for fun is of my friends and I and now reflecting back on my years as a filmmaker I can see this is where it all began. Thanks to my friends I've gained experience, and continue to have fun as a filmmaker with each project I take on.

I'm resolving the technical issues I'm having right now but I'll be back to have some more fun soon. Stay tuned and don't forget to Subscribe to My Channel and The Hollywood MMA Show!

Experimental Videos for Instagram

by Ray Roman in , , , , ,

It's been a couple weeks since I've made a blog post so I thought I should write a little somethin'. Whenever I get the chance (usually between projects) I create experimental videos to play with ideas, and continue to grow as a filmmaker. Below are a few clips I created specifically for Instagram because you're only allowed to post 15 seconds videos. My goal was to come up with something creative, and entertaining within the limitations of the application.

Watch the full lead-up video I edited of Yancy Medeiros preparing for his fight at UFC 172 here. Medeiros was originally set to fight Joe Ellenberger on the UFC 172 undercard, but due to an injury withdrawal of Bobby Green; Medeiros will fight Jim Miller on the main card of the PPV event.
