November Update (2013)

The past few months I've had the privilege of working within the MMA world capturing interviews of Bas Rutten, Rashad Evans, Don Frye, Roy Nelson, and many more fighters. It's been a great experience and I'm enjoying the opportunity. I'm a big fan of the sport and I've gained a new perspective from the experience. There's a big difference from seeing a fight on TV and being ringside, and backstage interviewing the fighters after the events.

Royce Gracie is one of the most important people to the growth of MMA. This month marks the 20th anniversary for the UFC -- Royce Gracie was the winner of the first UFC tournament back in 1993 which made him the first UFC champion. I'm currently editing an interview of him for The Hollywood MMA Show. This past weekend at UFC Fight Night 30 two teammates squared off against each other which rarely happens between fighters from the same camp. Kevin Casey gives us his opinion on his fellow BlackHouse MMA teammates Lyoto Machida and Mark Munoz fighting each other. Checkout the video below.

10 Year Anniversary of the San Diego Cedar Fire

I can't believe it's been 10 years since the cedar fire. I remember waking up on the morning of October 26, 2003 and seeing the sky filled with smoke. I had no idea what was going on, but I decided to grab my video camera and document my experience.  Below is a video I put together the week of the fires.

We spoke with Big John McCarthy after the fights at the U of MMA Fight Night 3 held at Club Nokia in Downtown Los Angeles.

John talks about preparing new referee’s to be the future of the sport. Through his experience he gives them insight on the rules, and mechanics of where to position themselves in a fight to ensure the safety of the fighters.

David Kano asks McCarthy how he stays humble coming down to the smaller amateur events in contrast to the big name matches. Read what John had to say below.

This is about the love of the sport, you know. I love MMA and anything that I can do to benefit, and help MMA, you know — the big fights when you do those, when you do the Anderson Silva’s, and the Jon Jones’, and the Cain Velasquez, that’s the icing on the cake. Those are the ones you get to do every now and again and say that was fun. But those are not the everyday thing, this is the everyday thing.

Referring to the amateur events, John goes on to say he believes it’s important to be apart of the smaller organizations to help instill the correct rules for the sport.

We enjoyed speaking with John; his love for the sport shows not only through his actions, but through his passion of the sport that he speaks about in our interview, we hope you enjoy it!
